Leather: treated with Sno-Seal for waterproofing

Lining: Valencia Cognac, Italian Lamb Nappa (0.6-0.7mm) sourced from GH Leathers – although the lining was dropped from the build

Thread: Vinymo #5 102 (Cream) stitched at 3.5mm

The leather and lining pieces for a simple wrap-around design with two side gussets
A patch to retain the strap needed to be bonded and stitched to the closing flap prior to bonding the nappa lining. Here the surface of the leather is sanded back to provide a better surface for bonding.
The nappa lining leather has such a soft handle that even when bonded to the closing flap, it buckles when mimicking its shape when closed. I thought it looked ugly so decided to drop lining the bag

Completed main body with just the gussets to stitch in place. Due to the curved edge where the gusset joins the main body, it’s not very easy to bond prior to stitching. So the stitching holes need to be pre-punched and the pieces drawn together as it is stitched.
The brass strap slider was attached by a short piece of leather that passes through an oblong hole punched into the gusset. Care is needed to ensure that both ends are positioned in exactly the same place (vertically and horizontally) to make sure the stitching is evenly space from the edge inside the bag
Due to the curved nature of the gusset join, it’s not very practical to glue prior to stitching. So retaining clamps where used to hold the pieces together while stitching
The strap was made of 25mm heavy cotton webbing

Saddle bag satchel V2 – suede lined

I’d a long overdue Tote bag in the making which was finally nearing completion so I thought it would be nice to supplement it with a satchel bag in a similar colour scheme – brown leather and a 1.2/1.4mm Pomegranate suede lining. It was also an opportunity to have another stab at lining this bag after the first failure.

The srap hold-down panel was an ideal place to add a personalised debossing. So Corinne’s stage name was stamped in gold to match her tote bag.
