A leather atelier from South Korea had made a miniature briefcase style wallet which really appealed. So I set about making something similar for a travel wallet. The sizing and placements were generally made up on the fly but the aim was that it could take a handful of cards and £20 sized notes. With hindsight I’d lower the front pocket by about 5mm and possibly increase its size to allow the pocket to hold the cards.

Leather: Badalassi Carlo Pueblo – Oliva and Tabacco – 1.4/1.6mm
Thread: #5 Vinymo, Colour 121 with stitch length of 3mm

The design is very simple with a single piece of leather folded to make the front, back and closing flap.

A small gusseted pocket which will sit underneath the closing flap

The gussets are first stitched to the pocket piece then stitched to the main panel. The pocket gussets need to be skived to nothing around the bottom section.

The pocket attached to the main panel which has also had the side gussets added.

Side gussets are then glued

The briefcase handle is made by thinning a piece of Oliva coloured leather to 0.4mm and then wrapping around a10mm strip of the Tabacco leather.

Pieces mimicking straps bonded to the closing flap area.

The handle piece is then bonded along the top edge and snap fasteners added to the straps

The handle and side gussets were finally stitched in place

The completed wallet ….
